The pre-season college football poll is out. Michigan is underrated me thinks. Henne is returning, and they have most of their starters back. Pre-season stuff is so speculative, yet at the same time, I feel drawn to it. Its like gold-mining, you know most of its a wash, yet sometimes you find that nugget of wisdom to focus on during the season.
Other disappointments:
I was a little surprised to see BYU not get more notice, they have finished strong the last couple of years.
My Alma Mater, Boise State, is about right, we lost our starting QB and some seniors, but we still have Ian Johnson, I would have us a bit higher than #23.
I have a hunch: Notre Dame is in for a rough year. Their schedule is BRUTAL, they lost Quinn and it looks like Weis is setting up the system for his top recruits coming in.
School with the most to prove: Ohio State. They loose their gunman and many other seniors. How well has Tressel prepped the system for this turnover? We shall see.
The Please Get Over It Factor: Penn State. This season should see Joe Pa whisked gracefully off to retirement. Hell, he doesn’t even want to coach from the field this year! Don’t buy the hype, this is a school stuck in what Colin Cowheard describes as a “holding pattern”. Right on.
The Heisman Bet: Me and my good friend, whom I shall refer to as A-Rod, made this bet, keep in mind he is from the L.A. area, and of course, roots for USC. I tend to wear my Notre Dame cap just to get under his skin.
If John David Booty, USC’s quarterback, wins the Heisman, I will don a USC lid.
Similarly, if Darin McFadden, Arkansas running back, wins the Heisman, A-Rod will don a Notre Dame lid.
With that in mind: Arkansas is ranked about where they should be. They need to prove that they can overcome some of the tougher games on their schedule. However, feed it to McFadden and they should rise in the polls.
Side Note: I pick Southern Miss to win C-USA, not that anyone, including myself, pays attention to this conference. I make that pick solely because they play my Broncos. Go Golden Eagles.
A good pre-season analysis. Maybe to boost their ranking, Boise should consider a certain person for their starting QB position. She’s waiting for the call…….
