Was a child molestor released early to make more room for small drug crimes?

KTVB.com: Man who molested two dozen children released, living in Boise area

I love this:

His release June 2 comes despite a recommendation from a hearing officer that he’s still a risk and should remain behind bars.

Wow. Just wow. But hey, no need to address jail overcrowding or anything. We will just let the prisons fill up with minor crimes and misdemeanors and let serious and hardened criminals walk.

Given that Mr. Stowell has a Boy Scout leader, RenewAmerica.us has another interesting take:

As a side note, this tragic incident confirms that the Boy Scouts are absolutely right to “discriminate” against homosexuals who want to serve as Scout leaders. The rate of pedophilia among homosexuals is up to sixteen times as high as among heterosexuals (homosexuals comprise just 3% of the population but are responsible for between 34% and 40% of all instances of child sexual abuse), and the BSA has a right and responsibility to protect the young boys under its care from predatory adults.

I couldn’t agree more.

UPDATE 6-25-2008Apparently Idaho isnt the only court with a weak spot for child molestors.

Today the United States Supreme Court struck down laws giving the option of a death penalty for child molestation.

“The death penalty is not a proportional punishment for the rape of a child,” Justice Anthony M. Kennady wrote.

Apparently, in Idaho, serving your complete prision sentence isn’t either.
