I <3 Corporate Bias

From FauxNews.com:

It took four years for Google to address the “Google bomb” that was lobbed at former President Bush.

But it took the Internet behemoth only a few days to defuse the same attack on President Obama.

Four years versus a few days … Some Googlers are asking why.

In 2003, President Bush’s detractors successfully gamed the Google search engine by arranging to have countless Web sites link the words “miserable failure” to Bush’s official biography on the White House Web site.

The result was that when someone typed the search term “miserable failure” into the Google search box, Bush’s bio rose to the top of the search results.

And that’s how it stayed until 2007, when Google developed an algorithm to detect what became known as “Google bombs” and re-directed the term “miserable failure” to non-political pages.

Unfortunately for Obama, “miserable failure” reverted back to his bio when he moved into the White House. The new president was also Google-bombed with the phrase “cheerful achievement.”

But this time, Google stepped in quickly, rectifying the situation in a few days, instead of four years.

The difference in time did not go unnoticed.

“You let this go on for the entire Bush administration,” a reader named w3bgrrl wrote on a Google blog. “But since you bought the White House for Obama, you don’t want your candidates harmed … And your claims not withstanding, even liberals know you’re liberal.”

Uggh

My loyal readers know that I have been slacking as of late. The blog posts just don’t seem to be firing off with the same intensity and veracity that they were pre-November 4th.

I am in a deep sort of funk: I don’t feel that we have entered the era of “hope and change”. I feel like we have entered the era of “fear and tyranny”.

It’s not that I don’t care, it’s just that I don’t feel it makes any difference. It’s like I feel as if it is no longer worth my time to be politically engaged. Democrats are fully in charge now. The number of corporate and governmental bailouts grows every day. The stimulus bill has bloated itself to a massive $900 Billion. Obama is moving forward with plans to institute mandatory civil service for youths. Hell, even one of the most conservative states in the union (Idaho, my home state) voted a Democrat to congress this term.

I care so much I could scream in anger. Yell, claw, scratch, bite and kick, rally the townsmen and demand reform. But it wouldn’t do any good. Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid could care less what a libertarian like me thinks.

I quit watching TV a long time ago, lately I have even quit reading the news online. I am completely unplugging from the system. I know this is wrong, but I just cannot muster the strength to continue to fight the fight, to continue to espouse the virtues that Washington toned out long ago.

I just feel like I am out of time to re-educate my fellow brainwashed citizens on the virtues of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. You want tyranny? Fine, take it. Just don’t expect me to go along willingly.

And yet, I know that response will only pull me into more government and more control as well.

I guess it boils down to a matter of principles. I know I am not going to like the next four to eight years. But, If I truly believe that the principals of liberty and freedom are a requirement for our freedoms to be preserved then I must find the will to write on.

I truly am an angry voter. These bailouts, the deficits, the fact that we are printing fiat money to produce fiat economic growth- where is the outrage? Am I alone?

Maybe the ideal doesn’t exist. Maybe their isn’t an ideal state that can be run without a welfare system, were people are left to their own merits and virtues to succeed or fail. A system where the government lives by its strictly enumerated powers and respects the proper role of the ninth and tenth amendments.

Maybe it’s a fairy tale to assume that when left to their own accord, free from government intervention and counterproductive regulations, people will naturally assume to live their lives in such a way that they can find their own meaning in this world.

But to me it seems that it boils down to a simple fundamental truth: compulsory taxation can only breed discord, strife and anger.

Attention Obama, Reid, Pelosi, anyone who will listen: I do not consent to you destroying the Constitution. I do not consent to you orchestrating massive government control over our lives. I do not consent to you saddling us with so much debt, so much taxation that we have no choice but to turn to your created benefits just to get by. Know that anything you take from me is taken by force, anything you offer, I reject.

We are shell shocked only because we are asking ourselves this simple question: how much am I willing to give up to fight for what I believe in? Our answer may very well determine our freedom.

Inside The Government Files

From Newsweek:

I had requested the files after I had heard that the government tracks “passenger activity.” Starting in the mid-1990s, many airlines handed over passenger records. Since 2002, the government has mandated that the commercial airlines deliver this information routinely and electronically.

I had been curious about what’s in my travel dossier, so I made a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request for a copy. I’m posting here a few sample pages of what officials sent me.

My biggest surprise was that the Internet Protocol (I.P.) address of the computer used to buy my tickets via a Web agency was noted. On the first document image posted here, I’ve circled in red the I.P. address of the computer used to buy my pair of airline tickets.

The commercial airlines send these passenger records to Customs and Border Protection, an agency within the Department of Homeland Security. Computers match the information with the databases of federal departments, such as Treasury, Agriculture, and Homeland Security. Computers uncover links between known and previously unidentified terrorists or terrorist suspects, as well as suspicious or irregular travel patterns. Some of this information comes from foreign governments and law enforcement agencies. The data is also crosschecked with American state and local law enforcement agencies, which are tracking persons who have warrants out for their arrest or who are under restraining orders. The data is used not only to fight terrorism but also to prevent and combat acts of organized crime and other illegal activity.

Nothing of surprise here, its just nice to have it for posterity’s sake.

Media Just Now Cries Foul Over Obama Access?

Perhaps this is the moment the Main Steam Media wakes up and realizes they have been drinking the Kool-Aid for two years?

From the AP:

News organizations that cover the White House sparred with the Obama administration on Thursday over access issues for photographers and rules for briefings.

Representatives from Obama’s press office held a conference call with photo editors, who are concerned that the administration prefers distributing photos taken by a White House photographer in cases where photojournalists have been permitted access in the past. It was unclear whether the two sides had reached any accommodation.

The Associated Press, Reuters and Agence France-Presse refused to distribute photos taken by the White House of the new president on his first day in the Oval Office because of the dispute. Still photographers were also not given access to Obama’s do-over oath of office administered Wednesday night by Chief Justice John Roberts and an economics meeting on Thursday.

Television network bureau chiefs also protested the exclusion of video cameras from the second oath of office.

Welcome to the party MSM. One needs to look no further than to Obama’s, “these questions are unwelcome” response to the controversy around Rev. Wright or to his use of “Truth Squads” to combat online dissent.

Media access is of paramount important in a free society. What value is there in the First Amendment if the free press does not have access to question our democratically elected leaders?

Obama’s media access rules seem to operate this way: it’s only relevant if we say it is, and we will extend a “favor” to you with access if you will report it our way.

From Faux News:

The White House allowed only four print reporters to cover the informal ceremony and released a picture by the official White House photographer.

Amid a packed room of reporters, Gibbs defended the decision to limit their numbers by arguing that there was no need for a big formal event, since the second oath was done out of an “abundance of caution” and nothing more.

The administration has continuously said it believed the original swearing-in at Tuesday’s inauguration ceremony was done appropriately, despite the flubbed lines by Roberts and Obama, and that the White House counsel’s decision to have the oath re-administered was mainly a protective measure.

Gibbs said the absence of a large group of reporters at the second swearing-in should not be seen as an indication of secrecy.

Yeah, heaven forbid people wake up to the real agenda of Barack Obama. We wouldn’t want any secrecy now would we? We wouldn’t want anyone spouting off any crazy rumors about Barack appointing New World Order supporters now would we?

/sigh

Well, good to see the media wake up from the Kool-Aid, if only for a moment.

On a side note… the media is reporting this second swearing in as only the third time in history a President has had to be re-sworn. Yet, I remember distinctly Bush’s first term he had to be re-sworn in?  Can anyone else recall this?

Sen. Kennedy Collapses In The Presence of “The Messiah”

Ok, a bit snarky of a headline for someone who has a brain tumor, but regardless it is well suited as a by-product for the swooning feelings of euphoria brought on by the mere escalation of man to throne. Great leaders, it seems, want the masses to swarm at their feet in allegiance, or as Obama has put it, “the price and promise of citizenship“.

Or is it?

I am reminded of a quote by James Madison:, “The truth is that all men having power ought to be mistrusted”. With that in mind, let us to turn to the source material to find the historical intent of the Executive Branch.

Federalist #69 makes a clear cut case for the duties and powers of the Presidency: He is not to be king.

The President of the United States would be an officer elected by the people for four years; the king of Great Britain is a perpetual and hereditary prince. The one would be amenable to personal punishment and disgrace; the person of the other is sacred and inviolable. The one would have a qualified negative upon the acts of the legislative body; the other has an absolute negative. The one would have a right to command the military and naval forces of the nation; the other, in addition to this right, possesses that of declaring war, and of raising and regulating fleets and armies by his own authority. The one would have a concurrent power with a branch of the legislature in the formation of treaties; the other is the sole possessor of the power of making treaties. The one would have a like concurrent authority in appointing to offices; the other is the sole author of all appointments. The one can confer no privileges whatever; the other can make denizens of aliens, noblemen of commoners; can erect corporations with all the rights incident to corporate bodies. The one can prescribe no rules concerning the commerce or currency of the nation; the other is in several respects the arbiter of commerce, and in this capacity can establish markets and fairs, can regulate weights and measures, can lay embargoes for a limited time, can coin money, can authorize or prohibit the circulation of foreign coin. What answer shall we give to those who would persuade us that things so unlike resemble each other? The same that ought to be given to those who tell us that a government, the whole power of which would be in the hands of the elective and periodical servants of the people, is an aristocracy, a monarchy, and a despotism.

Clearly, the office of the President’s powers are to be contained, reserved. Our President is not supposed to be a leader of a national church, and yet Rev. Sharon Wakins, of Disciples of Christ in North America proclaimed:

“In times such as these, we the people need you, the leaders of the nation, to be guided by the counsel that Isaiah gave so long ago,” she said. “This is the Biblical way. It is also the American way.”

She told Obama, “With your swearing-in, Mr. President, the flame of America’s promise burns just a little brighter for every child in this land.” There is much work to do, and some of it will “tend to draw you away from your ethical center,” she said.

“But we need you to hold the ground of your deepest values, of our deepest values,” Watkins said. “We need you to stay focused on our shared hopes, so that we can continue to hope, too. We will follow your lead.”

Even CNSNews.com asks what biblical figure Obama is most closely representing. Yeah, seriously.

With attitudes like this, we need be very concerned. We don’t just have a king, we have a Saviour.

From the Herald Sun:

The soaring rhetoric expected from a politician who has arrived almost as a messiah was preceded by a human moment as Senator Obama misplaced a word in taking the oath of office.

It was a time to smile as heavy clouds gather. America is embattled, not just by foreign wars but within its economic borders. The toll is rising rapidly as millions find themselves out of work and institutions crumble with only deep government intervention left to save them.

Deep government intervention. Messiah. If we don’t have a Presidency by virtue of his own supporters’ statements to the fact, then what do we have? An aristocracy? A monarchy? Despotism? Consider Obama’s own words as it relates to the historical perspective of the Presidency:

Now, there are some who question the scale of our ambitions, who suggest that our system cannot tolerate too many big plans. Their memories are short, for they have forgotten what this country has already done, what free men and women can achieve when imagination is joined to common purpose and necessity to courage.

What the cynics fail to understand is that the ground has shifted beneath them, that the stale political arguments that have consumed us for so long no longer apply. The question we ask today is not whether our government is too big or too small, but whether it works, whether it helps families find jobs at a decent wage, care they can afford, a retirement that is dignified. Where the answer is yes, we intend to move forward. Where the answer is no, programs will end. And those of us who manage the public’s knowledge will be held to account, to spend wisely, reform bad habits and do our business in the light of day, because only then can we restore the vital trust between a people and their government.

Yes, indeed the ground has shifted. It seems we no longer have a President, but King. No longer a leader, but a Messiah.

Our Founders rejected this type of government, man cannot rule over man and protect our inalienable rights. 1776 was the rejection of rule be decree. And yet, it seems, Obama would have us turn back the clock for “imagination joined with common purpose”.

My friends, we need be very concerned. Very, very concerned.

You do not speak for me Barack.

You do not represent me.

You are not my President.

You will be taxing me without consent, by force.

You will be regulating me without consent, by force.

Do not presume to speak for me, because you do not.

BREAKING NEWS: RAMOS AND COMPEAN SENTENCES COMMUTED ON BUSH’S LAST DAY IN OFFICE

VICTORY! The voice of the people was heard!

From CNN:

On his final full day in office, President Bush issued commutations for two former border patrol agents convicted in 2006 of shooting an undocumented immigrant who was smuggling drugs at the time.

The prison sentences of Ignacio Ramos and Joe Compean will now end March 20.

Ramos had received an 11-year prison sentence; Compean had received a 12-year sentence.

“The president has reviewed the circumstances of this case as a whole and the conditions of confinement and believes the sentences they received are too harsh and that they, and their families, have suffered enough for their crimes,” a senior administration official said.

“Commuting their sentences does not diminish the seriousness of their crimes. Ramos and Compean are convicted felons who violated their oaths to uphold the law and have been severely punished,” the official stated.

“This commutation gives them an opportunity to return to their families and communities, but both men will have to carry the burden of being convicted felons and the shame of violating their oaths for the rest of their lives.”

The official noted that both Democratic and Republican members of Congress have supported a commutation, including President-elect Barack Obama’s incoming White House chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, and Texas GOP Sens. Kay Bailey Hutchison and John Cornyn.

I just knew Bush would do the right thing. I am really glad this will not leave yet more unrest as he prepares to exit the White House.

President Bush, Thank you.
