Playing Catch-Up By Cutting Government

From KTVB:

Sen. Dean Cameron, R-Rupert and chairman of the Joint Finance-Appropriations budget committee, told the Times-News that July tax revenue that was about $27 million shy of the same period in 2008 could force the 2010 Legislature into difficult choices.

Cameron says, “Now it’s going to force us to discuss what programs are necessary…and maybe even eliminate agencies.”

Cameron declined to name what agencies might be dumped.

Finally! It appears that the polls have finally caught up our representatives.

Consider this from Rasmussen:

Seventy percent (70%) of likely voters now favor a government that offers fewer services and imposes lower taxes over one that provides more services with higher taxes, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey.

That’s up five points over the past month and is the highest level measured in nearly three years.

Given the alarming rate of state power consolidation under the Presidency of Barack Obama, it’s no surprise to see 70% of the public saying no to increased government intrusion into our lives. The ’silent majority’, a large demographic represented by a limited government philosophy, has been shaken awake by the radical vision of President Barack Obama.

What is even more encouraging is that these voters will not be satisfied with simply cutting taxes, they want a legitimate and real rollback to the power of the state. For example, consider the polls- forty-nine percent of people say workers should be able to opt out of Social Securityfifty percent of people oppose health care reform, and forty-six percent of people are deeply worried about the Stimulus money being wasted.

Another encouraging sign- most voters seem aware of the scope of the battle that we are facing. Sixty-eight percent of voters expect to see their federal income taxes rise under President Obama. The general consensus finds that fifty one percent of Americans are deeply distrustful of our financial (Federal Reserve) system and seventy-five percent favor auditing the Fed.

Ludwig von Mises wrote in 1929, “Government is the negation of liberty”. In the wake of the economic collapse, the bailouts, the radical expansion of government power and nationalization of our economy it appears that a majority of American’s are wanting government to be replaced with personal responsibility. This will involve shrinking government by eliminating programs and reducing regulatory reach. Taxation, if we are successful in also stopping Cap and Trade, Obamacare and increased government spending, should also plunge a result.

Note the shift: cutting taxes is a result of our action, not our main purpose.

We can claim legitimacy to our case by advocating a strict return to the enumerated powers of the Constitution, rolling back the Federal government to its proper size, scope and role. This requires outreach, education and organization. If you haven’t already done so, may I suggest networking with the Campaign For Liberty, the We The People Foundation or the American Liberty Alliance?

Something to watch- if the motivation to cut government lies only in pure fiscal/budgetary reasons, our representatives may well find themselves with even further dissatisfaction among their supporters.

This presents a real danger to the Republican party as it’s political base has essentially organized themselves separate from the Party itself (i.e. “Im a conservative first, Republican second“). Viewing the Tea Parties, et all as a groundswell of support for their cause is a very big miscalculation of the politcal winds. This has all the markings of an idealogical shift- one that will leave the party playing catch-up with the political direction of it’s base.

(14) BSU Season Opener One Week Away- Sept. 3rd

Finally, the long summer off-season winds to a close. Pre-season scrimmages. Fantasy football drafts. NFL camps. The battle for the starting jobs playing out in every practice facility in America.

Football is back.

Sept. 3rd marks the most important home game in Boise State history when we play host to the (16) University of Oregon Ducks. I cannot recall another game of more importance in the regular season. Yes, we have had Division II playoff games and quadruple-overtime wins. But nothing like this.

Perhaps it’s mental. After all, the Broncos did go on the road last year and beat the Ducks at a sold-out game in Autzen stadium. Don’t let them get back at us. Keep the momentum going, carry last year’s win forward. Show that this team has earned its stripes on the field.

Sporting News notes that every position on the Boise State roster has at least one player with starting experience.

Another thing- we have young talent:

The Broncos ache for another shot at perfection, and they’ll do it with a young-but experienced-squad. Boise State had 76 freshmen or sophomores among the 104 players on its 2008 bowl roster and enters the fall with just five seniors. Cornerback Kyle Wilson, who considered entering the NFL draft before returning, might be the only senior starter.

How many teams can say that? How many college football teams out there right now can say that well over seventy percent of their roster could be around for another two years?

It’s exciting to think what things may be coming for Boise State, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. We still have a game to play, a game that will define our season. We cannot rely on WAC scheduling to serve up a BCS invite without quality out-of-conference wins.

Going into last year’s game I think the general consensus was that we would have to wait to get the Ducks at home for a real shot at them. This year we have to keep from looking backwards and defend our near-perfect home record.

No matter the case, it will be good to have a welcome distraction to focus on. Something other than the economy, President Obama or the housing market. Something other than the imploding Republican party or the swine flu scare. Finally, we can permit ourselves a little fun and forget the struggles of the last two years.

Rejuvenation.

Seeing old friends at tailgates. Gathering with the neighbors and family to watch road games. Pouring your heart and soul into your team’s season. That subtle chill in the autumn breeze that seems to be tailor made for pigskin and astroturf.

Football is back. It’s about damn time.

‘Gangster Government’ And The Fed

From Bloomberg:

Denis M. Hughes, president of the New York State AFL-CIO, has been designated chairman of the New York Federal Reserve Bank’s board of directors for the remainder of 2009, bank spokesman Calvin Mitchell said in a statement.

Hughes, 59, has served as acting chairman since May, when Stephen Friedman resigned from the position to avoid the appearance of a conflict of interest over his ties to Goldman Sachs Group Inc.

And the president of the labor union doesn’t have conflict of interest?

Consider Denis’s recent statements on the AFL CIO Now blog:

“My job is to do whatever I can to make sure working families are considered when decisions are made.”

As the president of a labor union, yes. As the chairman of the New York Federal Reserve, no. Leading the way to market recovery is going to involve getting business’s back to profitability, something which is attacked by the concept of organized labor.

Or how the re-appointment of Ben Bailout Bernanke:

“While I have had serious differences with the Federal Reserve over the past few years, I think reappointing Chairman Bernanke is probably the right choice,” said Senate Banking Committee chairman Christopher Dodd, who will lead the Senate hearings.

But the announcement was not all positive, coming alongside news that the White House Budget Office is forecasting a cumulative $9 trillion budget deficit from 2010-2019, some $2 trillion more than its previous estimate in May.

Exactly as Ayn Rand warned in her polemic novel, ‘Atlas Shrugged’- when government is placing the looters in charge to run the treasury of government and industry dry. How long will it take for our hero Galt to rise up?

‘Gangster government’, thy name is The Fed.

Nationalized Health Care And The Orgins Of The Swine Flu

The government is preparing the single largest vaccine awareness campaign ever in preparation for the potential of the Swine Flu to turn into a global pandemic. The CDC is amassing a $4.8 million propaganda campaign aimed a mobilizing the public to the ~2,400 local health districts for a two-cycle shot to immunize against the H1N1 flu virus. What remains to be seen however is if this fear is justified.

To start, the CDC claims that so far this year 522 people have died as a result of the swine flu virus. With scant data available on the CDC’s H1N1 flu virus page, we can only assume that a significant percentage of these cases involved the very young, the very old, the sick and those with other ailments that complicated recovery. Additionally, compare this number with the estimated ~30,000 people that die from the regular flu virus in any given year.

This discrepancy cannot be ignored. Why is the CDC so concerned with the Swine Flu? The World Health Organization notes:

Seasonal influenza occurs every year and the viruses change each year - but many people have some immunity to the circulating virus which helps limit infections. Some countries also use seasonal influenza vaccines to reduce illness and deaths.

But influenza A(H1N1) is a new virus and one to which most people have no or little immunity and, therefore, this virus could cause more infections than are seen with seasonal flu. WHO is working closely with manufacturers to expedite the development of a safe and effective vaccine but it will be some months before it is available.

The new influenza A(H1N1) appears to be as contagious as seasonal influenza, and is spreading fast particularly among young people (from ages 10 to 45). The severity of the disease ranges from very mild symptoms to severe illnesses that can result in death. The majority of people who contract the virus experience the milder disease and recover without antiviral treatment or medical care. Of the more serious cases, more than half of hospitalized people had underlying health conditions or weak immune systems.

The cause for concern seems greatly exaggerated as the number of infections that result in death seems far, far below the regular flu average and even the governing bodies own data admit that most of these death’s are due to underlying symptoms that were only aggravated by said flu virus. But something else stood out, “But influenza A(H1N1) is a new virus and one to which most people have no or little immunity….”.

A new virus? The H1N1 Swine Flu virus, “contains DNA typical to avian, swine and human viruses, including elements from European and Asian swine viruses”. Suddenly this Swine Flu scare is starting to make sense. But the real story is not being reported and carries much, much more weight that the Swine Flu scare itself.

In 2004 the CDC began experiments to mix Avian and human flu variants in a attempts to better understand how future flu variants might mix and spread naturally.

CTV.ca notes:

The researchers, from the influenza branch of the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta, will mate H5N1 and human flu viruses in a process known as reassortment. Viable offspring will be tested in animals thought to be good surrogates for humans, to see if the viruses can infect, can be transmitted easily from infected animals to healthy ones and to note the severity of disease each provokes.

In other words, the CDC researchers will be deliberately engineering viruses of pandemic potential. It’s high-risk but crucial work, the influenza community insists.

Natural News notes that:

There was another, faster way CDC scientists could create the mix, too. Called reverse genetics, it involves piecing together a new virus with genes from the H5N1 and H3N2 viruses. Reverse genetics had already been used successfully to create H5N1 candidate vaccines in several laboratories, the CDC’s Daigle wrote. “Any viable viruses that emerge from these processes will be seeded into animals that are considered good models for testing how flu viruses behave in humans… The aim will be to observe whether the animals get sick and whether infected animals can infect others,” he revealed in his e-mail.

What’s more, the CP reported the CDC had already made hybrid viruses with H5N1 samples isolated from patients in Hong Kong in 1997, when there was the first outbreak of that virus, dubbed the “Hong Kong flu”. It is not clear if the results of that research were ever published. Back in 2004, Dr. Nancy Cox, then head of the CDC’s influenza branch, would tell the CP only: “Some gene combinations could be produced and others could not.”

At this point we know that the H1N1 virus appears man made as evidenced by the Avian, Swine and human flu variants found in it’s DNA. We also know that as far back as 2004 the CDC and WHO had been eagerly pushing to combine all these killer flu strains to study the possibility that a super-flu pandemic could break out when these independent strains mix in nature.

Is it possible that one of these lab created flu viruses escaped the level 3 containment? If so it appears we are lucky that this one does not appear to be more serious that the ordinary flu. However, it is important to note here: government medicine created this problem, government medicine will make it worse.

From the Times Online:

A swine flu vaccine will be fast-tracked for use in Britain within five days once it is developed, and 130 million doses are on order.

The Department of Health expects to have enough vaccine this year to give it to half the population. Further supplies will be available if needed. Each person will need two doses of the vaccine, unless one single jab is found to provide high rates of immunity.

The first doses specific to the H1N1 swine flu virus are set to arrive in September and could be given regulatory approval in less than a week.

Fast tracked medicine. Government created viruses. Tinkering with and combining killer strains the of the flu to study the results. And nevermind the real concerns about mercury in vaccines, which as been linked to autism. Is this the future of health care under the nationalization plans proposed by President Obama? Given the government’s ability to manage the Cash For Clunkers program, we can only assume that the Swine Flu is also a good representation of how well the government would manage our health care.

The good news- the Washington Post is reporting that at this point the government’s push to vaccinate the public against the man-made Swine Flu in completely voluntary. Given the dangers that lurk in vaccines, as well as much-over-hyped symptoms that this H1N1 virus brings, it would seem best to sit back and say thanks but no thanks.

But still, one has to wonder, what are the scientists at the WHO and CDC going to combine this flu scare with? What new pandemic will they seek to create with this year’s strains? And next time will they have the vaccine remedy available before they choose to release it onto the general public?

Will We All Be ‘Domestic Terrorists’?- S. 1317

Got this blast from the, “Citizens Committee For The Right To Keep And Bear Arms”:

Obama and the White House are looking the other way as Lautenberg seeks to ban guns from 1,000,000 US citizens on a secret FBI terrorist watch list. Obama has deliberately and repeatedly lied to America’s 90 million gun owners across the country when he insisted that he would not try to take away anyone’s firearms. Now Obama’s silence endorses Lautenberg’s latest attempt at banning guns.

Lautenberg has now introduced bill S. 1317 that would give the attorney general the discretion to block gun sales to people on terror watch lists. We must defeat this bill from giving extraordinary powers to limit gun sales to the Attorney General.

How you ask? Trial by innuendo and misinformation that has put 1,000,000 Americans and maybe even you on a terrorist watch list without your knowledge by saying: people placed on this government’s terrorist watch list can be stopped from getting on a plane or getting a visa, and will also be stopped from buying a gun.

Being skeptical of the 30-40 emails a day I get from various special interest groups I decided it would be prudent to investigate the claims of CCRKBA. What I discovered was shocking end-run around our second amendment rights to individually possess firearms, as reaffirmed by the Court in the Heller case last year.

S. 1317 would:

To increase public safety by permitting the Attorney General to deny the transfer of firearms or the issuance of firearms and explosives licenses to known or suspected dangerous terrorists.

On a surface level, it sound’s reasonable. Denying weapons to terrorists. Most reasonable people would agree that sounds like a good idea. The problem is that the devil is in the details and S. 1317 is amending a section of the Patriot Act that defines “terrorism”.

S. 1317 amends a section 2331 of the Patriot Act which defines terrorism as the following:

International Terrorism-  Involve violent acts or acts dangerous to human life that are a violation of the criminal laws of the United States or of any State, or that would be a criminal violation if committed within the jurisdiction of the United States or of any State; appear to be intended-(i) to intimidate or coerce a civilian population; (ii) to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or (iii) to affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination, or kidnapping; and occur primarily outside the territorial jurisdiction of the United States, or transcend national boundaries in terms of the means by which they are accomplished, the persons they appear intended to intimidate or coerce, or the locale in which their perpetrators operate or seek asylum.

Domestic Terrorism-  involve acts dangerous to human life that are a violation of the criminal laws of the United States or of any State; appear to be intended-(i) to intimidate or coerce a civilian population; (ii) to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or
(iii) to affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination, or kidnapping; and occur primarily within the territorial jurisdiction of the United States.

Domestic terrorism then, as defined by the government, is intimidation or coercion to affect the conduct of large groups of people. The problem is that the government is not limiting it’s labeling of people as ’terrorists’ to just those who would, “affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination or kidnapping”.

There is legitimate concern that abuse of the ‘No-Fly’ list would greatly accelerate once public acceptance of the extremely secretive list becomes main steam. As it stands today, protesters are terrorists. Constitutionalists are terrorists. Ron Paul supporters, anti-abortion activists, anti-New World Order and North American Union people are all ‘domestic terrorists’.

In fact, most mainstream opposition to the administration of President Barack Obama can find some aspect of their political beliefs labeled as ‘domestic terrorism’ according the DHS ‘Rightwing Extremism’ and MIAC ‘Modern Militia’ reports. There is no evidence that the government is actively putting the targets of the DHS and MIAC reports on the ‘No-Fly’ list. However, it is clear; President Barack Obama is using the full power of the Department of Homeland Security in an attempt to chill free speech.

For more coverage of the DHS ‘Rightwing Extremism’ and MIAC ‘Modern Militia’ reports click here.

The real motive of S. 1317 may be a genuine desire to keep weapons out of the hands of terrorists, but given the DHS and MIAC reports one has to wonder if this bill is really some fully loaded punch-back with some major issues of constitutional authority and permissibility.

With today’s political environment it is clear, we do not have the luxury of finding out the real motivation of S. 1317, write your Senators and Representatives today. Tell them to send S. 1317 packing.
