That’s it, i’m done with baseball

Two years in a row my Cubbies make the playoffs.

Two years in a row the Cubs couldn’t even win a single playoff game.

Second best record in baseball this year and you couldn’t even give us a single playoff win.

I am done with baseball. I am sick of a sport whose competitive balance is not determined by a strict salary cap and draft pick rules, but instead to whomever has the biggest media contract. Not governed by fan accessibility, but rather everything funneled through MLB Extra Innings or MLB.com. Seriously Selig, would it kill you to find a way to get more than one game a week that isn’t on cable? Football has 4-5 a weekend.

Whatever, I am done with baseball. Football is a much better sport anyway.

College Football Games Of Note For The Weekend of October 6th

Sorry, a little late on this one, the Thurs night game is currently on, (11) Gamecocks are up over (8) Kentucky at home. I believe that the `Cocks are for real, Kentucky I am still lukewarm on, but they are moving in the right direction.

Oh yeah, and here is my World Series prediction- Red Sox vs Colorado- Red Sox win second pennant in three years. It breaks my heart to type that, because I am a die hard Cubs fan. Sweet Lou showed me how inept he was in Game 1 of the NLCS pulling Zambrano in the 7th even though he let him bat in the bottom of the 6th. Ever hear of a pinch hitter Lou? You know, you’re supposed to use them if you intend to pull your pitcher…

Anyway.. without further ado….

The Heisman Bet Games-

Stanford v (2) USC- Ok first off let me say it’s legit that USC fell to number (2) this week. An undefeated SEC team is much better that an undefeated PAC-10 team by virtue of the tougher SEC schedule, but they are a close, and legit, (2). USC rolls on and Booty looks snappy against, well Stanford.

Chattanooga v Arkansas-  last week McFadden ran for 138 yards and two touches, expect a repeat or better performance this week against a similarly week program.

Ranked SEC Games-

Because I started this late you can call me a liar, but I really would of picked (11) The Gamecocks to ‘upset’ (8) Kentucky. Really. I promise. Read my previous posts- Great coach, at home, with a team of returning starters= a win.  Kentucky’s story is great, but this year is just the first chapter, to complete the novel they will have to repeat next year and thereafter, and I just don’t think this is fit to print, yet.

(12) Georgia v Tennessee- This is Ainge’s last week to show me something. I still believe Tennessee is under-rated, but I’m taking Ugga Power, they got great D and a reasonable offense. Oh yeah, and that coaching thing… On CBS.

(9) Florida v (1) LSU- the winner of this game will set the stage for the SEC championship. As Sporting News puts it in their College Football 2007 guide, “Even if LSU wins this match, can they beat Florida a second time for the SEC championship?”. For this pick I have to go ‘off-rules’: both teams have coaches, starters and schedule, so it boils it down to a gut-instinct thing. My call? Upset special, Urban Meyer shows his greatness and beats the Tigers two years in a row. On CBS.

Ranked PAC-10 Games-

(18) Arizona State v Washington State- The Cougars just aren’t that good, and the Sun Devils, well, they should win.

Oregon and Cal do not play this week. It couldn’t come at a better time for Oregon, losing at home to a better-ranked conference opponent in (6) Cal last week. Unless Cal falters down the stretch, its hard to see the Quacks playing for the PAC-10 title now.

Ranked Big-12 Games- (This ain’t Inter-murals, its Division I football! Its the Big 12!)

The Red River Classic- (10) OK v (19) Texas- Oklahoma has allowed the third least amount of points scored for all Big-12 teams, the Horns? They have allowed 7.8 more points a game that OK. There is also roughly a 9:5 ratio of points scored in favor of the Sooners.  And over the last five years, the coaching is about even, a 55-9 Texas record, 55-12 Sooners, but Texas leads in returning starters and is playing in Dallas, probably home to more fans. In the end- The evidence is overwhelming in favor of the Sooners, and it wouldn’t surprise me if they win, but Texas has also played a tougher schedule thus far, seems to have a better coach, and wins most of my criteria. An upset win, Longhorns take back the Red River crown. On ABC, and my must watch game of the week (a close win over the LSU game).

(25) Nebraska v (17) Missouri- Missouri at home, take em.

Ranked Big-10 Games-

(5) Wisconsin v Illinois- Take the Badgers, they are legit.

(4) Ohio State v (23) Purdue- Jim Tressel will have the Buckeyes ready, you can count on that. On ABC.

Other Ranked Games Of Note-

(6) South Florida v Florida Atlantic- The Big East is making a very nasty schedule for the Bulls, playing Rutgers, Cinci, Syracuse, Louisville and Pitt and their out of conference schedule is also demanding, with a game at Auburn. In short: yes, if they win out, this ranking is legit, and this weeks win will help solidify their hold on the (6) spot.

Bowling Green v (7) Boston College- wow, this will be a fun game to watch. If you have ESPNU, this is a must-see game. For us cable-free types, well whatever. I will take BC at home, and I spite Bowling Green for continuously putting off their game at my Boise State Broncos BECAUSE THEY ARE AFRAID OF US. BC should walk all over BG.

(13) West Virginia v Syracuse- The big East is full of fun teams. I think I will add that Conference to my roster starting next week. Mountaineers will win, the Orange men are still re-building.

(15) VT v (22) Clemson- I don’t buy Clemson, and I definitely think VT gets under-rated because of their mobile-QB offenses. VT move on, but will need to find an identity to move up much more in the rankings.

(20) Cinci v (21) Rutgers- Again, the Big East makes fun games. Who cares who will win this game? It will just be fun to watch.

Utah State v (16) Hawaii- Colt Brennan was on the cover of ESPN the mag this issue. Naturally, being a BSU fan, I used it as rat-box liner. Not really. Colt is awesome. I would like to see him get the Heisman, he deserves it. Did you know he holds like 20+ some off NCAA passing records? Crazy. Anyway, they are at home, they will win.

Notre Dame v UCLA- Will Notre Dame go 0-6? Yes, and here is why: ND gives up massive points. UCLA scores massive points. UCLA is at home. Scoring favors UCLA by a margin of 1:3.5.  Notre Dame can’t rush the ball, having two starters at about 100 yards each. UCLA, on the other hand, has two rushers with 400+ yards each and and a smattering of touches to spread. Passing yards are about even, but we all know ND is without a solid QB at the moment, UCLA’s QB, Olson, on the other hand has 922 Yrds and 7 touches with much much better rushers to take the pressure off. Hey Charlie, the housing market sucks, you may want to contact a Realtor BEFORE Notre Dame’s season is done. If you make it that far anyway.

And Finally My Boise State Broncos-

New Mexico State v BSU- The Broncos will wallop one of the worst teams in Division I football. And I will be there thanks to my kick-ass sister-in-law who got me tickets to the game. Seriously C-Fo, you rock.
